Michael Bush rushed for 177 yards and two touchdowns, JaMarcus Russell threw for 148 yards and a pair of TDs and the Oakland Raiders (5-11) came back from a 10-point deficit in the fourth quarter to beat the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (9-7) 31-24 on Sunday to end the Bucs hopes of a playoff berth.
Both offenses struggled in the first quarter but got things going in the second frame as Bush put the Raiders in front 7-0 on a 4-yard run. Tampa answered with a 9-yard touchdown run from Carnell Williams but with 30 seconds left in the half Oakland reclaimed the lead as Russell found Chaz Schilens on a 3-yard toss for the TD.
Jeff Garcia brought the Bucs even in the third when he hit Michael Clayton on a 58-yard touchdown pass and in the fourth quarter Tampa took its first lead when Matt Bryant kicked a 29-yard field goal for the 17-14 advantage.
Williams extended the Bucs lead to 24-14 when he scored on an 8-yard run and it looked like Tampa would be in good position for a playoff spot but the Raiders didn’t quit. Russell found Johnnie Lee Higgins on a 12-yard touchdown pass to pull Oakland to within 24-21 with 9:53 left in the game and then Bush scored on a 67-yard run two minutes later to give the Raiders a 28-24 lead.
Sebastian Janikowski then added a 25-yard field goal with just over a minute left and the Tampa offense had no answer.
