NFL Scores Week 17: Miami Dolphins Clinch AFC East Title with Road Win Over NY Jets

Chad Pennington was 22/30 passing for 200 yards and two touchdowns, Ted Ginn Jr. had 71 yards receiving and a TD and the Miami Dolphins (11-5) defense picked off Brett Favre three times to beat the New York Jets (9-7) 24-17 on Sunday to clinch the AFC East title and set up a home-field playoff game against the Baltimore Ravens next week.

After a scoreless first quarter Favre put the Jets on the board with a 13-yard touchdown toss to LaVeranous Coles for a 6-0 lead after the extra point failed. Pennington answered for the Dolphins though as he hit Ginn on a 27-yard touchdown pass to put the score at 7-6 with 2:18 left in the half and 15 seconds later the Dolphins were in front 14-6 after Phillip Merling picked off Favre and went 25-yards for a TD. Jay Feely managed to add a 28-yard field goal for the Jets to cut their deficit to 14-9 at the break.

The Jets climbed back into the lead in the third quarter when Leon Washington scored on a 10-yard touchdown run and after Favre hit Jerricho Cotchery on the two-point conversion to put NY in front17-14.

Miami answered the Jets drive with a TD of their own though as Pennington found Anthony Fasano on a 20-yard pass and the Dolphins carried a 21-17 lead into the fourth. Dan Carpenter added a 48-yard field goal to push the advantage to 24-17 for Miami and the defense did the rest.
