Will the man known as The Donald Trump President Obama in 2012?
If you believe recent rumors, there is a strong possibility that Donald Trump may run for President of the United States in 2012. According to recent New Hampshire polls, Trump ranks second behind GOP front runner, Mitt Romney. Romney would command approximately 27% of the voters, while Trump would come in at around 21%; previously, political analysts felt that Romney would be a shoe-in during the Republican Primary; however, this may not be the case anymore if Trump does choose to run.
Apparently, Trump does particularly well with birthers and members of the Tea Party; in fact, just this morning, Trump appeared on NBC’s Today Show to talk politics with anchor Meredith Vieira. During the interview, Trump took a staunch position against President Obama on the birther controversy, stating the belief that President Obama was not born in Hawaii, but rather Kenya. During the interview with Trump, instead of challenging his opinion pertaining to President Obama’s U.S. citizenry status, (which of note, has since been debunked) Vieira sat by quietly as Trump spoke. Vieira has taken quite a bit of flack for this, as some may mistake Vieira’s silence as proof of truth to the birther claim.
Controversy aside, the question remains: if elected, could Trump be a good president? The answer to that question is very subjective as it depends on the person giving his or her opinion. From an objective stand point, if Trump has the ability to run the country the same way he has his companies, the country could potentially experience some real economic revitalization.
For example, in the early 1990’s, Trump had a significant amount of debt including the purchase of Taj Mahal Casino which later went into bankruptcy. Although Trump was suffering serious financial issues, both professionally and personally, this did not stop him from making a strong come back in the late 90’s, regaining and adding to his previous fortune.
In less than a ten year period, Trump went from having a very dire financial situation to total financial recovery – an impressive feet for anyone to accomplish in such a short amount of time. To some degree, one could argue The United States’ economic problems somewhat mimic Trump’s one time financial woes; and look what Trump did with his situation in a period of less than ten years. If given the opportunity, is it possible that Trump could do the same thing for the United States’ economy?
One thing is for sure: if The Donald does announce his intention to run, succeeds, and revitalizes the economy as some believe he can, than President Obama won’t be the only politician he has trumped.
