Israel Launches Third Day of Airstrikes on Gaza Strip

The airstrikes launched by Israel on the Gaza Strip has entered the third day and casualties in the troubled area has now surpassed 300 with several more left injured.

On Monday Israel hit key sites linked to the Palestinian militant group Hamas with Gaza’s interior ministry and Islamic University among the targets.

Israel has vowed to continue the shelling of Gaza in response to the continued rocket attacks carried out by Hamas. Those rocket attacks into southern Israel signaled an end to a six-month ceasefire between Israel and Hamas and Israeli officials have declared they would use all their forces to halt the offensive of Hamas, and have been using airstrikes since Saturday to back up their words.

While Hamas has said at least 312 Palestinians have been killed the UN has placed the number at 56 civilians.

In addition to the airstrikes Israel has massed ground troops along the border of Gaza, opening the potential for a ground assault.

Israel’s strikes have been met with condemnation by the Arab world as Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon and Syria have seen massive protests against the Israelis and several Western countries have called for Israel to halt their attacks.
