New York Jets Fire Eric Mangini after Team Misses Playoffs

The New York Jets have fired head coach Eric Mangini, ending a three-year tenure in which he posted a 23-26 record and one playoff berth.

It was Mangini’s inability to lead the Jets to the playoffs this year that lead to the firing as New York began the year 8-3 and appeared poised for a postseason run. That ended after they dropped four of their last five games including Sunday’s home loss to the Miami Dolphins.

While the Jets picked up wins against the Tennessee Titans and Arizona Cardinals, both division winners, they also had losses to the Oakland Raiders, San Francisco 49ers and Seattle Seahawks.

The Jets had brought in Brett Favre at the beginning of the year in hopes the 39-year-old would guide the club to the postseason but he struggled down the stretch and his future with the club is now in doubt.
