Britain’s Ministry of Defense confirms one Royal Navy serviceman was killed and another was wounded Friday in a shooting on board the nuclear submarine HMS Astute. A third serviceman was arrested after the incident.
"Two Royal Navy personnel have been involved in a firearms incident at Southampton docks where HMS Astute is alongside. Sadly, one has now died as a result of his injuries. A third Royal Navy serviceman has been arrested by Hampshire Constabulary and is now in custody,” a defense official said in a statement.
The HMS Astute was in the Southampton port when the shooting occurred shortly after noon. The wounded serviceman is in critical condition. No other details, including the names of those involved in the shooting, were released.
