2 Men Arrested In Connection With Brazil School Shooting

Brazilian authorities have arrested two men in connection with last week’s deadly school shooting. State-run media reports Charleston Souza de Lucena and Isaias de Souza were arrested for helping 23-year-old Wellington Menezes de Oliveira obtain a .32 caliber handgun he used to kill students last Thursday at Municipal School Tasso da Silveira in Rio de Janeiro. Both men claim they did not know what Menezes de Oliveira was going to do with the gun.  Police have not arrested anyone in connection with a .38 revolver used in the shooting.

The motive behind the shooting remains unclear. Ten female students and 2 male students, who were all between 12 and 15 years old, were killed. At least 13 others were wounded. Menezes de Oliveira, who was a former student at the school, committed suicide after he was shot in the abdomen by a police officer.

Municipal School Tasso da Silveira is scheduled to reopen on April 18.
