Congress Still gets Paid Amid the Budget Crisis

By: Daun Lee

Despite the many people who will lose pay when the government shuts down, the members of Congress will still be receiving their paychecks. Member of the military and other federal employees will have to wait possibly weeks for their pay but no members of the House or Senate. With all the suggested budget cuts many programs face the Congress hasn’t even suggested that they cut funding to their salaries, medical plans or retirement benefits instead they would cut funding from people who make tens of thousands less annually than themselves.

One budget cut that would greatly affect the many people who may lose their homes and need foreclosure attorneys are to the program which helps people find jobs. The unemployment rate is improving but the damage to our real estate market has already been done. The unemployment rate has affected every state’s foreclosure rate.

Congress also will manage to eliminate 200,000 thousand federal jobs, if the majority get the cuts they want. This could further stress the housing market. Not all those federal employees will lose their homes but studies have shown that areas with high unemployment have a large number of homeowners who risk losing their homes and must employ foreclosure lawyers. It’s doubtful that any members of Congress who gets to keep their paychecks will face the problems that the people who lose their jobs because of their decisions. Being able to keep a home may depend on the employ of a foreclosure attorney.
