Seven people were killed and 10 others wounded Saturday in a shooting at the Ridderhof mall in Alphen aan den Rijn, Netherlands. Dutch prosecutors revealed Monday that the gunman, who has been identified as 24-year-old Tristen van der Vlis, fired more than 100 rounds from three different guns before committing suicide.
Police confiscated van der Vlis’s computer and a letter in which he claimed to have planted explosive devices in areas of Alphen. Those areas were evacuated, but authorities did not find any explosives.
Thousands of people gathered Sunday to mourn the shooting victims. "A man has weakened many of us with a senseless act. We never thought something like this could happen here in Alphen. Great to have you here to think about such a terrible thing. We will come back stronger, but will never forget,” Mayor Bas Eenhoorn said in opening comments.
