The
Pacific Life Holiday Bowl will host two of the nation’s top offenses as the Oklahoma
State Cowboys (9-3) take on the Oregon Ducks (9-3) on Tuesday night at Qualcomm
Stadium in San Diego, California.
Oregon
has the seventh ranked scoring offense in the country with an average of 41.9
points per game and they rely heavily on a ground attack led by senior running
back Jeremiah Johnson and junior running back LeGarrette Blount. The two have
totaled 28 touchdowns on the season and provided quarterback Jeremiah Masoli
with a legitimate threat out of the backfield which opens up the passing game.
Masoli has proven to be the Ducks best QB and closed the season strong in three
wins.
Oklahoma
State is no stranger to the running game as sophomore running back Kendall
Hunter has rolled up 1518 yards on the season with an average of 126.5 yards
per game. As strong as Hunter is in the backfield the Cowboys don’t rely on him
for all their offense as quarterback Zac Robinson has one of the most dangerous
wide receivers in the nation in Dez Bryant. Bryant averages 109.4 yards per
game and has 18 touchdowns on the season.
Both
teams have strong run defenses as the Ducks limit their opponents to 119.42
yards on the ground while the Cowboys are allowing 123.75 yards per game. The
game could come down to which school steps up their passing defense as both have
struggled in that area throughout the year. Oregon has allowed an average of
263.6 yards per game while the Cowboys are giving up 268.5 each game, that’s
good enough for 109 and 111 in the country.
Oklahoma
State put together a great year with losses coming to then #1 Texas, then #2
Texas Tech and then #3 Oklahoma. The Ducks dropped games to Boise State, then
#9 USC and California.
Kickoff
is set for 8:00 p.m. ET on Dec. 30.
