Cynthia McKinney Among Passengers on Medical Supply Boat Intercepted by Israeli Navy

Cynthia McKinney, the Green Party presidential candidate in the 2008 presidential election, was among 16 passengers on a medical supply boat that was intercepted by the Israeli navy as it tried to enter waters near Gaza.

According to the group that organized the medical relief trip, Free Gaza Movement, “several Israeli gunboats intercepted the Dignity she was heading on a mission of mercy to Gaza.”

The ship had been carrying medical supplies to Gaza in an effort to provide relief to four days of heavy airstrikes launched by Israel. Officials in Israel acknowledged that they had stopped the boat in what they called a “closed military zone” and then escorted the boat to Cypriot waters; the medical supplies had been donated by Cyprus.

There have been no reports of injuries from the incident and the boat docked in Lebanon.
