Atlanta Falcons QB Matt Ryan Named AP Offensive Rookie of the Year

Atlanta Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan has been named the AP’s top offensive rookie after leading his squad to an 11-5 record and a playoff berth one year after the club finished 4-12 and in complete chaos.

Ryan had a quick jump on the competition as his first NFL pass went 62-yards for a touchdown in the Falcons season opener. From that point on he tossed another 15 touchdowns while amassing 3440 yards passing and completing 61.1 percent of his passes.

Ryan was a clear winner in the vote with Baltimore Ravens quarterback Joe Flacco finishing a distant second. Tennessee Titans running back Chris Johnson; Denver Broncos wide receiver Eddie Royal; Chicago Bears running back Matt Forte; and Houston Texans running back Steve Slaton where among the other contenders for the award.
