Former Bangladesh Prime Minister Khaleda Zia Claims Parliamentary Elections Rigged, Protests Outcome

Former Bangladesh Prime Minister Khaleda Zia has claimed Monday’s parliamentary elections was full of irregularities including voter rigging and has rejected the outcome which placed Sheikh Hasina’s Awami League in power.

Zia told reporters, “We have confirmed reports of rigging and other irregularities in many polling stations across the country.” This despite election observers declaring the process was legitimate.

The results of the election put 260 seats in possession of the Awami League while Zia’s Bangladesh Nationalist Party won just 31 seats.

The Election Commission has yet to announce the official numbers for the parliamentary elections but Zia has pledged to collect “more irregularities and will give them to the media and appropriate authorities over next few days.”
