Divorce Leads to Fatal Shootings in Missouri

By: Daun Lee

A man fatally shot his wife along with two of her friends in Modena, Missouri. John Hubbard, 50, approached the home of Lisa Tunnell, 41, who was sheltering his estranged wife and shot her and an acquaintance. They were protecting Misty Hufford, 37, from her enraged husband. Once in the house Mr. Hubbard shot Misty in an upstairs bedroom while their two year-old daughter stood in the yard. He then left the premises and killed himself in his truck, according to police. Misty had apparently filed for divorce just two days before the shooting. Misty was John Hubbard’s third wife.

Divorce is a tough thing to go through. People face extreme emotional turmoil when faced with an impending divorce. Most divorces aided by divorce attorneys, however, occur without physical injury or death and are resolved in the courts.

Statistics show that second and third marriages fail frequently. The rejection of going through a divorce for the third time could have set John Hubbard off, but no one will be sure why he chose the route he did. When a person fears their spouse, the advice of a divorce lawyer can help lead them to the resources necessary for protection.

In a divorce many things have to be considered, like custody of children and division of assets and property. Hiring a divorce attorney is a necessity in reaching a fair settlement for the two parties, so the nuptials don’t end in tragedy.
