Cancer Research Company Awarded $40 million

A Boston Firm Third Rock awarded the research company Blueprint Medicines $40 million dollars to research the molecular structure of cancer cells, according to Medical News. By studying the human genome the company hopes to develop specialized cancer treatments tailored to the individual’s treatment needs. Blueprint will study how the cancer genome changes cause a cell to become cancerous. The genome of the cancer can also tell researchers what type of cancer cell is growing.

Cancer is thus far a disease which kills innumerable people across the globe, by targeting which cell mutation causes the growth of cancer cells, more effective treatments will help people live longer. Especially for people who have cancers that don’t respond well to radiation or chemotherapy.
