Charles Barkley, a former NBA and Olympic star, was arrested
Wednesday. Barkley ran a stop sign in Scottsdale, Arizona around 1 a.m. and was
pulled over. He was taken to a nearby mobile command post where he refused to
take a breath test but submitted to a blood test. He was charged with driving
while impaired.
“He was very nice and professional,” said police Lt. Eric
Shuhandler.
The results from the blood test are expected within a
week. If convicted, Barkley could face between 1 and 10 days in jail, a $1,000
fine and his driver’s license suspended for 90 days.
Barkley, 45, played in the NBA for several years before
representing the United States in the 1992 and 1996 Olympics. In October 2008,
he announced that he would run for governor of Alabama in 2014.
