Britain's Prince Harry is trapped in the Arctic after an ice crack closed the runway he was due to fly home from.
The daring royal is waiting in sub zero temperatures outside Borneo Ice Airfield, about 200 miles from the North Pole, to return home after his time on a planned charity trek with four disabled soldiers was cut short due to bad weather.
A huge crack in the ice flow prevented an aircraft sent to take Harry home from landing yesterday (07.04.11). The prince has to return to Britain to complete helicopter training, but the veterans will continue their trek.
A royal spokesperson said: "Prince Harry will return to ice station Borneo to await the first available flight."
The trek has been blighted by bad weather from its start. The team was due to fly to Borneo from the Norwegian island of Spitsbergen on Sunday (03.04.11) but takeoff was postponed because of severe weather conditions.
The team arrived at the Borneo Ice Airfield in the early hours of Tuesday (05.04.11) to start the trek. Although his time on the expedition has been shortened, the prince said he had still found the challenge "remarkable".
He said: "The miles may have to be minimised only by a little bit, but it's not going to make a difference to what these guys are doing.
"It's truly inspirational and truly remarkable, so let's keep the support going."
The trek hopes to raise £2 million for charity Walking with the Wounded, of which Harry is a patron.
