Several people have been detained in an investigation into Monday’s deadly subway bombing in Minsk, Belarus. Deputy Prosecutor General Andrei Shved announced the arrests Tuesday, but did not say how many people were in custody. Authorities are also looking for two other male suspects and have made sketches based on descriptions provided by witnesses.
An initial investigation suggests a radio-controlled bomb filled with nails, shrapnel and metal balls was placed under a bench at the Oktyabrskaya metro station. The explosion killed 12 people and wounded more than 150 people.
Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko ordered public transportation security to be tightened “to the uttermost.” He also accepted Russian President Dmitry Medvedev’s offer to help investigate the attack.
