The state of Arizona has been blocked from enacting strict immigration laws which would attempt to curtail the number of illegal immigrants in the state. In April of 2010 the governor of Arizona, Jan Brewer, proposed the legislation which contrasted the Federal Policy on illegal immigration. The Ninth District Court upheld a previous ruling which stated that the Federal Government was the only body allowed to pass laws on the treatment of illegal immigration and how those laws were enforced.
Some the aspects of the Arizona legislation would require immigrants to carry papers. The Arizona law would also give police the right to detain anyone suspected to be an illegal immigrant. The legislation spurred protests in Latin American and in the US. Illegal immigration is a sensitive issue especially to the residents who are negatively affected by the problem. Illegal immigrants can become citizens with the employ of an immigration attorney and avoid deportation.
Becoming a US citizen with assistance of an immigration lawyer has many benefits. Not only can a person enjoy the same rights and access to social program that naturalized people do, but they can also alleviate some social bigotry that illegals face. Though time consuming, the process of becoming a US citizen is rewarding. An immigration attorney can fully inform the illegal immigrant on the benefits and rights attributed to American citizenship.
