Tom Hanks joins Cloud Atlas

Tom Hanks has signed on to 'Cloud Atlas'.

The 'Da Vinci Code' actor will begin shooting the adaptation of the David Mitchell novel - about the action and consequences of one person's life on the past, present and future of others - in September.

Directors Andy and Lana Wachowski are set to helm the project, with Tom Tykwer writing the adaptation.

James McAvoy and Halle Berry are also thought to be in the running for a role in the forthcoming project.

Grant Hill and Stefan Arndt will produce the project, will Philp Lee with be the executive producer.

Tom - who has won two Oscars in his career - is currently filming 'Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close' with Sandra Bullock and John Goodman.

He is also credited as a producer in forthcoming TV movie 'Game Change' about the rise of US President Barack Obama, with Ed Harris and Julianne Moore set to play Republican office-runners John McCain and Sarah Palin respectively.
