Eight States Mimic Arizona’s Controversial Immigration Laws

By: Daun Lee

Even though Arizona was prevented by the appeals from enacting their controversial illegal immigration law at least eight other states want to follow in their footsteps. Arizona’s bill would require the police to ask for immigration papers for anyone suspected of being illegal and would prohibit illegal immigrants from holding jobs or enter into public schools. The other states that have immigration bills coming up for vote include Georgia, Florida, Nebraska, Alabama, Utah, Oklahoma, Virginia and South Carolina.

Aspects of each states immigration bills differ but the main goal is to reduce the number of illegals in their states and the resources that they use without contributing to via taxes. These states are not only faced with budget problems but are also facing social prejudices towards illegal immigrants.

Illegal immigrants face these prejudices along with deportation if they don’t obtain citizenship with the aid of an immigration lawyer. Becoming a legal resident of the US offers the immigrant opportunities they wouldn’t be able to take advantage of like voting or accessing student loans and other entitlement programs that are available.

Citizenship obtained with the guidance of an immigration attorney also infuses the immigrant with a sense of pride that they now belong to the one of the greatest countries on the earth. American citizens have a lot of pride in their country and enjoy participating in democracy. Hiring an immigration lawyer can help people become naturalized citizens and get them on the way to being part of a democratic country with innumerable freedoms.
