100-year Old Golfer Gets Entry Into National Golf Championship

A 100-year old golfer, Mary Golden of Carlsbad, California, will receive a free entry into the U.S. Putting Tour's national championship, which is scheduled to take place in Carlsbad at The Crossings golf course in September.

"When I read an article in the newspaper about Mary turning 100 and still playing golf, I just had to give her a free entry into the USPT Championship," said U.S. Putting Tour president, Jim Hartley. "I founded the tour so all golfers who love the game have a chance to compete for a national championship. No one has a greater love for the game than Mary."

The USPT Championship is open to all golfers over the age of 12. Men and women will compete together, as will amateurs and professionals. There are no flights or divisions for age, sex, or ability levels.

Golfers can enter the championship now at the putting tour website. The cost to enter is $100, which guarantees each competitor 72 holes of putting on the primary putting green at The Crossings, where the weeklong putting competition will take place.

The top 18 finishers from each of four separate days of first round play will advance to the second round where they will play another 36 holes. Following round two, the field will be cut from 72 players to the low 24, who will conclude the putting tournament by playing a final 36 holes, which will determine the winner.

PGA club professionals and others also can hold official qualifying events between now and the September championship. In addition, the USPT will hold several qualifying events throughout Southern California.

More information on the putting tour and the season-ending tour championship can be found at the USPT website and by emailing info@usputtingtour.com.
