Ethiopia
has begun the process of pulling troops out of Somalia following a two-year
presence in which they aided the government in fighting off Islamic militants.
According
to Ethiopian Prime Minister Meles Zenawi the process could take several days
and while there is hope that the withdrawal will make it easier for a new
government to be formed there are still fears that the absence of Ethiopian
troops could create further instability.
The
withdrawal began with nearly 30 Ethiopian vehicles filled with troops and
equipment leaving the capital city of Mogadishu.
While
Ethiopian troops withdrawal from Somalia more than 3,500 peacekeepers will
remain in the country until defensive forces can be established by the government.
