Indianapolis
Colts quarterback Peyton Manning has been named the NFL’s MVP, the third time
he has been named the league’s best player. The announcement on Friday now
places Manning in the company of Brett Favre, the only other player in NFL
history to capture three MVP awards.
The
voting wasn’t even close as Manning collected 32 votes, far more than Chad
Pennington and Michael Turner who each nabbed four votes.
Manning
led a second half surge for the Colts that gave the club to its sixth straight
season with at least twelve wins. The Colts have been on a nine-game winning
streak as Manning has bounced back from a slow start due in large part to an
injury. Despite the slow start Manning still threw for 4,002 yards and 27
touchdowns and put the Colts in the playoffs where they will face the San Diego
Chargers on Saturday.
Manning’s
4,000+ passing yards marked the ninth straight season he has hit that total, an
NFL record. He collected his other two MVP awards in 2003 and 2004.
