Standoff in North Carolina Ends as Suspect Takes His Own Life

A standoff in western North Carolina has ended after a man suspected of killing three people and kidnapping two of his children took his own life on Friday.

Police say Richard D. Heatwole killed his ex-wife and two other people and then kidnapped two of his children, Hayes and Hayley Heatwole on Thursday. Authorities tracked him to a cousin’s house near Taylorsville and then found his body inside.

Both Heatwole’s children and his cousin were found unharmed inside the home.

Heatwole reportedly killed his ex-wife Angela Heatwole and a second person inside a Candler home and then a third victim was found in another house nearby.
