United Nations Says Palestinians in Gaza Facing Serious Health and Food Crisis

For the seventh straight day Israel has launched airstrikes on the Gaza Strip and the conditions within the region have deteriorated enough for the United Nations to declare Palestinians within Gaza are now facing a serious health and food crisis.

Israel has refused to scale down its airstrikes on Hamas targets within Gaza, declaring the attacks would continue until rocket attacks in southern Israel ceased. While Israel has destroyed several key Hamas positions the UN has said nearly a quarter of the 400 killed in the attacks have been civilians.

The UN has also said that while humanitarian aid has been allowed in the threat of serious health issues and food shortages remain a problem. A statement released by the UN’s Max Gaylard noted, “It is true supplies have been going into the Strip, in fact possibly more than in previous weeks, but at the same time there are critical gaps.”

Despite the continued airstrikes on Gaza the militant rebel group Hamas has not halted their rocket attacks into southern Israel and they have warned any ground attack launched by their neighbor would be met with strong resistance.
