Atlanta MARTA Rider Struck and Killed the Day After Another is Pulled From Tracks (VIDEO)
On Wednesday an Atlanta man was pulled from the MARTA tracks at the Five Points station after he fell there while trying to jump across to the next platform. He was lying in the train tracks convulsing from electric shocks generated from the energized rail. His rescue was caught on camera by a bystander.
Jeremy Clifton was on his way to a part-time job when he saw the commotion taking place. He started to jump down onto the tracks himself but was reminded by a bystander that he too would be shocked by the rail. He could see the man convulsing and spark of electricity jumping over his body.
He reached down and took the man's arm and helped pull him to safety off the tracks. As he grabbed the man's arm he felt five or six jolts go through his arm as well as the electricity flowed between the two men. As he was being rescued the man stepped on the cover of the deadly rail. Had he contacted the rail he, along with Clifton, could have been killed.
Another man was not as lucky on Thursday morning. A MARTA train at the Kensington station struck and killed a commuter just before 8:30a.m. It is unclear how the man wound up in the path of the train, but the death was confirmed by a MARTA spokesperson.
Service to the station was stopped as passengers were shuttled around the tracks after the incident. By 11a.m. the tracks were operating normally.
