Liberty Mutual Study Reveals New Teen Drunk Driving Statistics

By: Daun Lee

Prom season is approaching and many parents will be worried if their teens will drink and drive on Prom Night. The insurer Liberty Mutual and SADD conducted a study that showed teen DUIs on Prom Night have decreased. According to PR Newswire, the survey question 2,294 students and only 6 percent of those students admitted to driving intoxicated on Prom Night. Liberty Mutual attributes the reduction in teen drunken driving to no tolerance policies enacted by schools for official functions which include breathalyzers, the presence of police officers or security guards and organized transportation.

The police also have a zero tolerance policy towards teen DUIs. Unlike adult DUIs, teens with any blood alcohol content can be charged with a DUI and will need a DUI attorney. Police are always aware of DUI dangers and often gear up their efforts to catch intoxicated drivers near events notorious for drinking.

For teens a DUI can hinder future prospects like college and are treated strictly. When a teen gets a DUI a DUI lawyer can be very helpful to their case.

Adults who get DUIs also face very strict penalties for intoxicated driving, but are allowed to have higher blood alcohol content. Facing a DUI is a dire prospect for adults and teens so a DUI attorney becomes necessary to reduce charges or consequences for the infraction which will be treated harshly by the courts and result in lost freedoms.
