Jevan Snead was 18/29 passing for 292 yards and three touchdowns, Brandon Bolden collected 101 rushing yards and a TD and the Ole Miss Rebels (9-4) offense totaled 521 yards while their defense picked off Graham Harrell twice and returned one for a TD in a 47-34 victory over the Texas Tech Red Raiders (11-2) in the Cotton Bowl on Friday.
Harrell gave the Red Raiders a 7-0 lead in the opening quarter when he found Edward Britton on a 35-yard touchdown pass and then Texas Tech pushed their lead to 14-0 when Jevan Snead was picked off by Darcel McBath who returned it 45-yards for a TD. Snead made up for the mistake on the Rebels next drive though as he hit Gerald Harris on an 8-yard toss to cut the deficit to 14-7 heading into the second quarter.
Snead then tied the game at 14-14 when he hooked up with Mike Wallace on a 41-yard touchdown pass but Harrell responded and put the Red Raiders back in front with a 2-yard touchdown pass to Michael Crabtree. The Ole Miss offense continued to click though as Snead and Wallace hooked up for the second time, this time on a 21-yard TD and the score was even at 21-21. Joshua Shene then gave the Rebels their first lead 24-21 when he kicked a 27-yard field goal just before the half.
Ole Miss then grabbed control of the game early in the third quarter when Harrell was intercepted by Marshay Green who returned it 65-yards for a touchdown and then Bolden scored on a 17-yard TD run to push the Rebels advantage to 38-21 heading into the final frame.
Harrell brought the Red Raiders to within ten when he hooked up with Britton on a 12-yard touchdown pass but the Rebels defense then collected a safety and with four minutes left in the game Dexter McCluster put the game away with a 4-yard touchdown run to put the score at 47-28. Harrell would get Texas Tech back in the endzone with a 17-yard touchdown pass to Eric Morris but by that point the game had already been decided.
