International Bowl Scores: Connecticut Huskies End Buffalo Bulls Season with Second Half Thumping

Donald Brown, the nation’s leading rusher, collected 261 yards on the ground and a touchdown on 29 carries, Tyler Lorenzen threw a TD and added two more on the ground and the Connecticut Huskies (8-5) forced five turnovers to beat the Buffalo Bulls (8-6) 38-20 in the International Bowl on Saturday.

Buffalo grabbed a 3-0 lead in eth opening quarter as A.J. Principe kicked a 38-yard field goal but the Huskies answered quickly as Brown busted a 45-yard touchdown run to give Connecticut a 7-3 advantage.

That lead was extended to 10-3 early in the second frame when Dave Teggart hit a 32-yard field goal for the Huskies but Buffalo appeared to grab control of the game after that when Ray Anthony Long recovered a fumbled punt in the endzone to even the game for the Bulls at 10-10. Principe then added a 29-yard field goal and then James Starks found the endzone on a 4-yard run and Buffalo was up 20-10 with just under eight minutes left in the half. Lorenzen managed to bring the Huskies back with a 13-yard touchdown run to cut their deficit to 20-17 at the break.

The second half was all Connecticut as the Huskies reclaimed the lead in the third quarter when Lorenzen found Steve Brouse on a 4-yard TD toss for the 24-20 advantage.

Late in the fourth quarter Lorenzen used his legs once again to put the Huskies on the board as he scored on a 15-yard run with 4:44 left on the clock. Buffalo had a great opportunity to cut their deficit to four with just over two minutes but Drew Willy’s pass was picked off in the endzone and Dahna Deleston returned it 100-yards for a touchdown to seal the game.
