A British journalist and a Spanish photographer who had been taken hostage in Somali more than a month ago have been released by the gunmen who abducted them.
Colin Freeman and Jose Cendon were in Somalia covering the rise in piracy in the Gulf of Aden when they were abducted by bodyguards who had been hired as protection. Five days after their Nov. 26 abduction they were able to make contact with family members and arrange for negotiations for their release.
While foreigners are often targeted by Somali insurgents in hopes of securing large ransom payments Freeman and Cendon were reportedly released without a ransom.
Both men reported they were treated fine mentally and physically and the kidnappers treated them relatively well.
