8 NATO Troops Killed in Afghanistan on Saturday

Eight NATO troops died in Afghanistan Saturday in three separate attacks. According to NATO, one suicide attack claimed the lives of five American soldiers while two other attacks killed a total of three soldiers. The Taliban claimed responsibility for all three attacks.

The most deadly attack occurred at a joint Afghan and United States base in the province of Laghman. NATO said an insurgent dressed as an Afghan solider entered the base and detonated explosives strapped to his body. All five of the NATO soldiers killed were part of the U.S. Army’s 101st Airborne Division. Officials say four Afghan troops also died in the blast. Eight others were injured.

Details on the other two attacks, including the nationalities of the three troops who died, were not released.
