Donovan McNabb was 2/34 passing for 300 yards and a touchdown, Brian Westbrook had 121 yards receiving and rushing and a TD and Asante Samuel returned an interception 44-yards for a score to lead the Philadelphia Eagles to a 26-14 victory over the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday to advance in the NFC playoffs and set up a third meeting against the New York Giants next week.
David Akers provided the only points of the first quarter with a pair of field goals as the Eagles carried a 6-0 lead into the second quarter. That advantage was erased early in the second frame when Adrian Peterson scored on a 40-yard run to give the Vikings a 7-6 lead.
Akers reclaimed the lead for the Eagles when he hit a 31-yard field goal midway through the second and then Samuel gave Philly a 16-7 cushion when he picked off Tarvaris Jackson and went 44 yards for the touchdown. Minnesota managed to cut their deficit to 16-14 just before the half when Peterson scored on a 3-yard run.
After a scoreless third quarter the Eagles got some breathing room when McNabb hit Westbrook on a short screen and he went 71 yards for a touchdown with 6:53 left on the clock. The Eagles defense continued to hold in the second half and Akers shut the door with his fourth field goal of the game, a 45-yarder, to push the lead to 26-14.
