Israeli Defense Minister Ehud Barak “We Still Haven’t Reached Our Objectives,” Offensive to Continue

With the Israeli offensive against the Palestinian militant group Hamas now in its second week there are no signs that the violence in Gaza will lessen as Defense Minister Ehud Barak has declared “we still haven’t reached our objectives.”

Israel has pounded Gaza with airstrikes and sent ground troops into the volatile region on Saturday in a continued effort to end Hamas rocket attacks. Despite an international call for a ceasefire Israel has insisted they will not stop until they secure areas used by Hamas to conduct their attacks.

According to Palestinian officials the death toll has now passed 500 in Gaza and more than 2,500 have been left injured.

The attacks in Gaza have left Palestinians facing a humanitarian crisis as food, water and electricity are now in short supply and aid is slow to arrive.
