High School Football: Matt Barkley Leads White Team to Victory in Under Armour All-America Game

Matt Barkley, the nation's top quarterback, led the White team to a 27-16 victory in the Under Armour All-America Game on Sunday evening.

The Under Armour All-America Game showcased almost 100 of the nation's top high school football prospects for the second year in a row.

Barkley, ESPN.com's top-ranked high school football player, completed 11-of-22 passes for 237 yards and two touchdowns, earning the game's MVP award. The USC commit set the tone for the game as he threw a pass to wide receiver Marlon Brown, who broke free and scored a 71-yard touchdown, on the very first play from scrimmage.

In the second quarter, Barkley hit Jamal Reid for a 35-yard touchdown to give the Black team a 14-0 lead.

Russell Shepard, the nation's top dual-threat quarterback, got the offense in gear for the Black team after throwing a 92-yard pass to Andre Debose. After the score, Shepard, an LSU recruit, pushed hard for Debose to join him with the Tigers next year. Later in the game, Shepard ran for a 15-yard touchdown as well.

Gary Reid caught two interceptions for the Black team, earning the game's defensive MVP award despite playing on the losing team.

Terry Hawthorne was the leading receiver in the game with six receptions for 120 yards, while Shepard led all rushers with six carries for 24 yards and a touchdown.

During the game, several top-notch recruits made their college choices during the ESPN telecast. Branden Smith, one of the nation's top cornerbacks, committed to Georgia, while offensive tackle John Martinez selected USC over UCLA and LSU. Craig Loston, the nation's top safety, committed to LSU on Friday and will join his cousin Shepard in Baton Rouge.

High school teammates Debose, Ray Ray Armstrong and Dyron Dye all committed Sunday as Armstrong and Dye committed to Miami, while Debose pledged to attend Florida. All of the players who have committed will sign letters-of-intent to their respective schools on National Signing Day on February 4.

Despite the big-time commitments, several other players left the game still uncommitted, such as Jelani Jenkins and Manti Te'o, the nation's top two linebackers. Jenkins will decide between Florida, Penn State, USC, Illinois, Boston College, and Notre Dame, while Te'o will choose among Notre Dame, USC, UCLA, Stanford and BYU.
