Los Angeles Lakers forward Lamar Odom has been named the Sixth Man of the Year for the 2010-2011 NBA season.
During the regular season, Odom averaged 14.4 points, 8.7 rebounds and 3 assists per game. He also shot 53% from the field, which is his highest FG percentage in his 12-year career.
Odom actually started for the Lakers in 35 games this season, so he was often not a sixth man at all. But the only requirement to receive the award is that the player must come off the bench more times than he starts. Odom entered off the bench in 47 games.
Khloe Kardashian, Odom's wife and TV reality star, tweeted on Teusday, "Today is going to be an amazing day!!!!!!! I'm so excited!!!!!"
Interestingly, Odom is the first player in Lakers franchise history to receive the award, which has been around since 1983.
Other contenders for the award this year included Jason Terry of the Dallas Mavericks, Glen Davis of the Boston Celtics, James Harden of the Oklahoma City Thunder, and Thaddeus Young of the Philadelphia 76ers.
