James Cameron recently discusses the unfulfilled prophecy that was made in his hit 1991 movie 'Terminator 2'.
In the film, it is prophesied that at exactly 8:11 PM on April 19, 2011, 'Skynet' (the main antagonist in the 'Terminator' movies - an artifically intelligent computer network that becomes self-aware and revolts against humans) will become self aware and thus start a chain of events that would lead to an all-out war between man and machine.
James Cameron told TMZ, "Kyle Reese said in the first film that it was only 'one possible future.' Clearly, not the one we're in. Maybe Kyle, Sarah, John and the T-800 changed things enough to steer us away from that possible future."
To be fair, at the time of this writing, it is not yet 8:11 PM, so maybe the prophesy will be fufilled. Or has the prophesy already been fulfilled? Cameron thinks that, in a way, the machines have already taken over.
"Now instead of nuclear war and the machines taking over, we need to worry about global climate change. And the machines taking over," said Cameron. "With everybody going through their lives bent over their Blackberries all day long, you could even argue the machines have already won."
