Luke Harangody had 31 points and 11 rebounds, Kyle McAlarney finished with 17 points and Tory Jackson had 10 points and 7 assists to lift the #13 Notre Dame Fighting Irish (11-3, 2-1) past the #10 Georgetown Hoyas (10-3,1-2 ) 73-67 and extend their home winning streak to 44 games.
Harangody, the reigning Big East player of the year, finished the first half with 19 points as the Irish built a 39-28 lead at the break but the Hoyas quickly cut their deficit to 39-35 in the second half with a three-pointer from Jessie Sapp and a pair of layups from Greg Monroe.
Notre Dame looked to be in serious trouble when Harangody picked up his fourth foul at the 15:17 mark but Ryan Ayers hit a pair of triples and then a layup to keep them in front until their big man could return.
The Hoyas stayed close and trailed by seven with 8:03 left in the game but McAlarney gave the Irish some breathing room after dropping a pair of three-pointers. Monroe managed to get the Hoyas back to within five with a minute left on the clock but Notre Dame hit 6-7 from the line down the stretch to seal the game.
It was the free-throw shooting that proved to be the difference in the game as Notre Dame finished 15-16 from the line while Georgetown hit just 13-22.
