Tostitos Fiesta Bowl Scores Texas Longhorns Score Last Minute TD to Drop Ohio State Buckeyes
Colt McCoy was 41/58 passing for 414 yards and two touchdowns and Quan Cosby had 14 receptions for 178 yards and a pair of TDs including the game-winning 26-yard score with 16 seconds left on the clock to give the Texas Longhorns a dramatic 24-21 victory over the Ohio State Buckeyes in the Tostitos Fiesta Bowl on Monday.
The Buckeyes put the first points of the game on the board in the opening quarter when Aaron Pettrey booted a 51-yard field goal. Texas answered early in the second when Hunter Lawrence connected from 27-yards out to even the score at 3-3 but Ohio State reclaimed the lead with 5:39 left in the half when Ryan Pretorius was good from 30 yards out to move up 6-3.
Texas took control of the game in the third quarter when McCoy scored on a 14-yard touchdown run to move in front 10-6. McCoy then extended the Longhorns lead to 17-6 when he found Cosby on a 7-yard toss and the lead held into the fourth quarter.
Ohio State moved to within 17-9 early in the final frame when Pettrey kicked a 44-yard field goal and six minutes later Todd Boeckman hit Terrelle Pryor on a 5-yard toss but their two-point attempt failed to leave the score at 17-15. The Buckeyes grabbed their first lead since the first half when Daniel Herron scored on a 15-yard touchdown run but the two-point attempt failed again and the score was 21-17 with 2:05 remaining in the game.
Starting on their own 22-yard-line the Longhorns marched down the field and after converting on a 4th and 3 McCoy hit Brandon Collins on a 14-yard toss to get down to the Buckeyes 26-yard-line and then he found Cosby on a quick strike and he went 26-yards for the touchdown.
