Concerns have risen across the state with HVAC Contractors:
Is the State of Florida going to require Contractors to obtain a Mold Assessors License if they intend to provide Indoor Air Quality Testing as part of their routine day to day maintenance service calls?Building Health Check LLC, a leader in manufacturing do-it-yourself IAQ testing products and services contacted
Richard Morrison, Executive Director for Mold Related Services Licensing, for the State of Florida Department of Business & Professional Regulation and posed that very question to him.
Question: Are Licensed HVAC Contractors required to obtain this “Mold-Related Services License” for testing the Indoor Air Quality of a System in a facility that they are Installing, Servicing or Maintaining a HVAC System?
Answer: “It is within the scope of work for an AC contractor licensed under F.S. 489 to clean AC units, air handlers, ducts, testing for air quality, etc... and they are exempt from licensure when working within the scope of that license. Please see Section 468.814(d) to verify.” - Richard Morrison, Executive Director for Mold Related Services LicensingThis is great news out of Tallahassee for contractors; there is no requirement at this time to get a Mold Assessors License for HVAC Contractors providing Indoor Air Quality Testing as part of their day to day service calls. Building Health Check, LLC, your IAQ partner, continues to keep its clients well informed of the latest of IAQ issues and trends as well as pending legislation that may or may not affect them in the near future.
