Nigerian Novelist Elechi Amadi Kidnapped by Gunmen in Niger Delta

Nigerian novelist Elechi Amandi has reportedly been kidnapped by three gunmen from his home in the Niger Delta.

According to Amandi’s grand-daughter the gunmen entered his home near Port Harcourt and forced him from the house. There has been no contact with the gunmen nor has there been any motive revealed for the abduction.

Amandi has been an outspoken critic of the violence that has dominated the Niger Delta and many believe he may have been targeted by a group for his views.

Amandi, 74, is widely regarded as one of Nigeria’s greatest authors. His works include The Concubine, The Slave and The Great Ponds.
