14 Pakistani Soldiers Killed In Attack On Military Checkpoint

Pakistani authorities say 14 soldiers died late Thursday when about 200 Afghan insurgents attacked and surrounded a military checkpoint in the Lower Dir District of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province. The checkpoint is located on Pakistan’s border with Afghanistan.

"Fourteen people were killed including nine Frontier Corps soldiers and five police officials,” an unidentified military official confirmed to the AFP.

At least 12 other soldiers were wounded. District Police Chief Muhammad Saleem Murrawat said the insurgents were forced to retreat after security forces began fighting back.
