Patrick Swayze Admits to “Going Through Hell” with Pancreatic Cancer

Patrick Swayze, star of Hollywood blockbusters Dirty Dancing and Ghost, has admitted that he was “going through hell” having to live with pancreatic cancer but remained optimistic about his future and finding a cure.

In an interview with Barbara Walters the 56-year-old actor said “I keep dreaming of a future, a future with a long and healthy life, not lived in the shadow of cancer but in the light.” Swayze was emphatic when addressing rumors that said he was close to death, “Am I dying? Am I giving up? Am I on my death bed? Am I saying goodbye to people? No way.”

The former People’s magazine “Sexiest Man Alive” was diagnosed with Stage 4 pancreatic cancer early in 2007 and has undergone chemotherapy.

ABC will air the interview with Barbara Walters and Patrick Swayze on Jan.7 at 10:00 p.m. ET.

Swayze is now starring in the A&E drama “The Beast” in which he plays an FBI agent. The show debuts on Jan. 15.
