Turkey Arrests at least 30 People Accused of Plotting Coup

Turkey’s ruling AK Party has arrested more than 30 people they accuse of participating in an alleged plot to overthrow the government.

Police carried out raids in six provinces on Wednesday, arresting nearly three dozen people including retired generals and a former police chief. Wednesday’s actions were just the latest in a string of arrests carried out against suspected ultra-nationalists.

According to reports those arrested were involved in a plot that would stir unrest within the country which would then lead to a coup carried out by the army. Many of those arrested were politicians, academics and journalists who were opponents of the AK Party.
