In
an effort to eliminate wasteful government spending President-elect Barack
Obama has named Nancy Killefer as his administration’s chief performance
officer.
The
newly created position will put Killefer in direct contact with federal
agencies where she will work to not only cut wasteful spending but also set up
performance standards designed to boost efficiency within those agencies.
Speaking
at his transition headquarters Obama noted, ““We can no longer afford to
sustain the old ways when we know there are new and more efficient ways to
getting the job done.”
Reform
concerning government spending had been a key point of Obama’s campaign for the
presidency and on Tuesday he reiterated his call for change saying he would “bring
a long-overdue sense of responsibility and accountability to Washington.”
Killefer
formerly served as an assistant secretary of the treasury under President Bill
Clinton.
