Former NBA Dallas Mavericks Player Pleads Guilty In Cocaine Conspiracy

Donald J. Hodge, a former NBA player pleaded guilty Friday at the U.S. District Court in Alexandria Virginia to violating 21 USC :841 & 846 Conspiracy to Distribute 500 Grams or More of Cocaine (Sch II).

Hodge who played for the Dallas Mavericks in the 1990s, admitted he was involved in the conspiracy from April 2010 though about January, according to papers filed at the Federal Court in Alexandria.

According to a DEA affidavit, Federal Agents began investigating Hodge and others in July 2009, conducting surveillance, listening in on wiretaps, using GPS data, a pole mounted camera and seizing drugs. Prosecutors said in court papers that drugs were stored at Hodge’s condo in the unit block of Kennedy Street NW.

When authorities in January asked Hodge if he participated in drug trafficking activities, Hodge answered, “I leave out the situation,”according to a special agent with the Drug Enforcement Administration.

Hodge said he and a friend are “recreational users of marijuana and that they smoke the drug in [his] residence.”

Authorities said Hodge and his alleged conspirator Dimingus C. Bundy spoke in code about dealing drugs. When authorities searched Hodge’s condo in December they found a zip lock containing cocaine, a .380 caliber handgun and a pouch of ammunition, court papers say.

Hodge, who was arrested on February 7, 2011, faces a mandatory minimum 5 year sentence and is scheduled for Sentencing on July 8, 2011 at 09:00 AM before U.S. District Judge Gerald Bruce Lee.

Hodge had been previously arrested by DC Metro Police in a traffic stop on April, 2010, and was sentenced on April 13,2010, in D.C. Superior Court for attempted possession of cocaine.
