A
ceasefire proposal crafted by France and Egypt has been well-received by Israel
who has agreed on the principles of the deal but cautioned “the challenge is
now to get the details to match the principles.”
Now
in its second week of military operations in the Gaza Strip, Israel had halted
its attacks for a three-hour period on Wednesday to allow humanitarian aid to
reach those in need but the moment that time expired the attacks resumed.
While
Israel has said the three-hour ceasefire would be a daily occurrence they have
also said their strikes against Hamas would continue as long as the Palestinian
militants launched rockets into southern Israel.
There
has been an international call for a ceasefire between both Israel and Hamas
and on Wednesday French President Nicolas Sarkozy said that a proposal had been
accepted by Israel and the Palestinian Authority but there was no word on how
it was received by Hamas.
Hamas
has said there would be no ceasefire until Israel lifted a blockade of Gaza but
they did say the proposal showed “positive signs.”
