On Sunday, the Boston Celtics completed their sweep of the New York Knicks by defeating them 101-89.
The Celtics have thus secured their spot in the Eastern Conference semi-finals by completing perhaps one of the most surprising sweeps of the 2011 NBA Playoffs.
"It's what we expected coming in. We knew it wasn't going to be easy, obviously Games 1 and 2, but we found a way to put it away," said Celtics point guard Rajon Rondo, who recorded 21 points and 12 assists in Game 4. "We haven't swept a team in a long time, so it's good feeling."
The Celtics could now have a week to rest before facing their likely opponent, the Miami Heat, who are currently leading 3-1 against the Philadelphia 76ers in their first round playoff series.
Because they were sweeped in the first round, the Knicks have still not won a single playoff game in 10 years. And Knicks fans certainly did not witness the series they were hoping for, with Chauncey Billups missing the last three games and Amare Stoudemire suffering from back troubles.
But despite their unfortunate result in this year's playoffs, Knicks forward and newcomer Carmelo Anthony remains hopeful that the team is heading to good places.
"Tonight was one of those games that we have to leave it all out on the court. Wasn't no need to take anything home with us, and we did that," said Anthony, who led his team in Game 4 with 32 points. "So I'm pretty sure that we gained a lot of respect from a lot of people right now, but this is the first step of something great."
