Mesothelioma victim celebrates 14 years of survival

By: Daun Lee

In 1997, Paul Krauss was diagnosed with mesothelioma, an aggressive type of lung cancer, and given just a few months to live. He and his family were shocked. Doctors had few options to treat the cancer, which is caused by inhaling asbestos fibers. Paul, however, was determined to beat the cancer and now 14 years later, he is a survivor.

Paul Krauss wrote a book about his tale of survival, to help others suffering from cancer called ‘Surviving Mesothelioma and Other Cancers.’ His book details the ways in which he triumphed over his disease. Krauss worked with clinicians that employed innovative methods for treating his mesothelioma. He also turned to unconventional medicine, to conquer his disease like intravenous vitamin therapy, Traditional Chinese medicine and mind-body medicine. His book is a patient’s guide, and offers his advice as a survivor. He also runs the Surviving Mesothelioma website dedicated to providing people with information about treating and dealing with mesothelioma.

There has been an awareness of the dangers of asbestos for decades, but many countries still use the toxic mineral. In the US, the use of asbestos is heavily regulated, but is still present in many buildings and shipyards. People who worked closely with asbestos risk contracting the fatal cancer, and may need a mesothelioma attorney to seek compensation for their healthcare. There is no cure and the medical costs can become burdensome, in order to take care of themselves, victims of asbestos exposure can employ a mesothelioma lawyer to speak for them against the companies that knowingly use the carcinogen.
