Close-Up TV News Recognizes Wound Care Consultants

Close-Up TV News recognizes Wound Care Consultants for its commitment to education, technology and improving the quality of life for those in need.

Since 1992, Wound Care Consultants of Dallas, TX has been on the cutting edge of treating wounds that resist healing. The state-of-the-art technology employed by the practice, including the use of hyperbaric chambers and hyperbaric oxygen therapy, are making a big difference in the quality of life for patients who suffer from these debilitating wounds.

“I like to think that we have been on the cutting edge,” says Dr. Jeffrey Stone. “More importantly, I like to think that we have helped people.”

During normal healing, an orderly, predictable course of biological processes occurs with each step dependent on the availability of appropriate substrates and nutritional elements. Cells proliferate and divide releasing growth factors; new blood vessels are created; a collagen matrix is formed and remodeling occurs. However, with some patients things happen within the body to alter this course and the healing process is derailed. When this happens a wound can become chronic.

The number of people in the United States in need of expert wound care is increasing rapidly. The largest portion of this group is patients with diabetes, who number over sixteen million in the U.S. and over one million in Texas alone. These patients are more susceptible to non-healing wounds because diabetes causes microangiopathic changes, not only in the eyes and kidneys, but also in the foot. Without aggressive wound care, these non-healing wounds of the foot can lead to surgical amputation as well as a long, costly rehabilitation with permanently reduced mobility and independence.

Wound Care Consultants’ total focus on chronic wound treatment has allowed them to be the first to review new products as they become available and participate in clinical trials that have led to advanced wound care technologies. For instance the use of growth factors, which are chemicals that can enhance wound healing, has proven to be highly successful on many of their patients. Wound Care Consultants’ experience with these new technologies has been instrumental in reaching healing rates of 85-90%.

“Our goal is to raise the bar for wound care by providing the additional education and assistance,” says Dr. Stone. “We want to communicate to both the general public and the medical community the advancements that are possible with aggressive wound care.”
